Safety notice — combustion appliances

Propane, kerosene, and diesel heaters are fuel-burning appliances that can pose fire and carbon-monoxide (CO) risks if used improperly. Any information on this site about indoor use, ventilation, clearances, or safety is general and may not fit your specific heater, space, or local conditions. Before using any heater:

• Read and follow the manufacturer’s manual for that exact model.
• Only use a heater indoors if it is specifically labeled and certified for indoor use — never use an outdoor-only heater inside.
• Install a working, battery-backed carbon-monoxide detector in any space where a heater runs.

Some states and cities (including California, under Health & Safety Code §19881) restrict or ban unvented (“vent-free” / ODS) heaters for indoor residential use regardless of certification. Check your state and local building code before installing any unvented heater indoors. If you ever smell gas or fumes or suspect CO, turn the heater off, ventilate, leave the area, and call your local emergency number. We are not responsible for how you use any product.
